At the Capitol

Hey remember that time we went on vacation last month? Yeah me too. I'm just getting around to posting more photos! Oops! After spending most of our vacation in the Smokies, we finished out the trip by visiting my family in DC. I hadn't been to see everyone up there in 3 years! That's way to long in my book! My family used make the 14 hour trek from Florida to visit twice a year. I loved it. It was so different visiting without the rest of my family this time and with my husband. I guess that means I grew up or something. Anyway, since our trip was short we decided just to go to the Capitol for an afternoon. Though I've been twice a year since I was a baby, Jonathan only went a time or two during grade school. Poor little public school kid. Haha. We went to the new International Spy museum (which was awesome), the Library of Congress and the Lincoln Memorial. Ah, we love adventuring.

The Library of Congress is one of my favorite places in DC. Oh, the architecture! My grandmother actually worked there for a little while!

The Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorites. I love to stand on the steps and look across the pool to the Washington Monument. Unfortunately, the pool was under some kind of construction so it wasn't as pretty as I remembered.

After a long afternoon of sightseeing and sweating, my sweet cousins met us for dinner. They are hillarious. I really wish we all lived closer! Alas!

Well, that's about it folks! I'm currently recovering from a wonderful weekend full of friends and family. Seriously, why can't all the people I love live in the same town? Boo. However, my sweet sissy just moved to college about 30 minutes from our place! Her first day of class is today! Now I just have to get the rest of them here...

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Brock & Sarah | Dothan AL Engagement Photographer

I met Sarah a few months back through a friend. After chatting for a while over coffee I knew that it was going to be such a pleasure to work with this adorable little lady. She and her fiance, Brock, met during their studies at Troy University. After graduating, they both found teaching jobs in the same town. Sarah is a sweet kindergarten teacher and Brock loves to coach baseball. After Brock popped the question over Spring break, they began planning their December wedding. I'm just so happy to be a part of their love story.

I love doing engagement sessions. It is such a special thing to be able to see the sweet love between two people. Each couple is so different. Some have a loud, laughing love while others are gentle and unassuming. Each love is as unique. Theirs is nothing short of precious. I'm such a hopeless romantic and nothing makes me more giddy than seeing two people so happy together. These photos really show that these two are head over heels in love!

It all began in Troy...

I don't think you can get any more precious than these two photos here! Ah!!!

Oh, this one makes me so happy! Can't you see the joy on their faces? My goodness, they are so adorable!

I love this one because Brock proposed while they were dancing! So sweet!

I had so much trouble narrowing down these photos for the blog! They were all so sweet! I can't wait for their gorgeous wedding!

PS: Isn't "the dip" one of the most romantic things ever? I love it!

Two Years Together

Two years! I can't believe it. I'm so incredibly thankful that I get to share my life with such a wonderful man. I am so blessed. Our life isn't perfect and neither is our marriage, but we are learning and growing together. I have a man who loves me well and is an example to me of how Christ loves the Church. I have been so blown away by his sacrificial love this past year. With all the changes that have come our way, he has been my rock. He always reaffirms that we're a team, we're in this together, that he loves me and will always take care of me. He is an exceptional man. He is wise, passionate, loving, strong, godly, hard-working, faithful and influential - just to name a few attributes. I'm head over heels. I just love being his wife. Proverbs 18:22 says, "Find a good spouse, you find a good life - and even more: the favor of God!" I have more than just a good spouse; I have an extraordinary one.

I can't wait to find out where the Lord will lead us this next year. I'm so glad I get to journey through life with you, my love! I love you more today than I ever have.

Happy 2nd Anniversary.

Honeymoon Memories

I can't believe our 2 year anniversary is ONE WEEK from tomorrow. Craziness. I was looking back through our honeymoon photos the other day and so many fond memories flooded my mind. We were so blessed to be able to go to the exotic little island of Curacao. Ah, I wish I could go back tomorrow! Anyway, I realized that I've never shared about our trip on the blog before, so I thought it'd be fun to reminisce. Here's a few snapshots of our adventures from my old point and shoot!

We literally had the best suite in the whole resort because of some precious friends. It was amazing. Yes, we woke up to this view every morning. I could have gotten used to it! We were constantly amazed by our surroundings. We really couldn't have asked for anything more perfect!

I have never seen such a beautiful place. It almost didn't seem real as we walked around. Of course, the fact that we were married and on vacation together didn't seem real either. Awesome, but not real.

I loved just being able to relax on the beautiful beach with my man. After all the stress of planning a wedding, it was nice not to have anything on the agenda for a few days. Plus, it was the one and only time I've ever worn a bikini and I was actually tan! Hehe.

There were iguanas and these pigeons with funny rings around their eyes everywhere. They weren't shy either!

One day we decided to venture into the capitol of Willemstad. This island is a little bit unique because it is officially part of the Netherlands. You can see Dutch influence in the architecture everywhere. It was also interesting to find out that we were a minority. Most people there were European. I think we met one other American couple. We joked about putting on our best British or Italian accent to see if we could blend in a little better. Although, I'm pretty sure our clothes gave us away as American...especially Jonathan's. Most of the other guys were wearing capris, or whatever they are called. Oh, and he was also one of the only men in swim shorts and not a speedo. So funny!

I loved all the brightly colored buildings of the city. We had fun exploring, eating ice cream and observing a different culture. There were also lots of obscure restaurants tucked away up on top of different buildings. We took a chance with several and the food blew our minds. It was so fresh! Ah, I'm drooling just thinking about it now!

On our last morning we hopped on a boat called the Jonalisa and rode out to a smaller island off the coast called Klein Curacao to scuba dive and explore. It was such a neat experience. I love being on the water! However, food + the ocean + movement + cigarette smoke = a very sick Jen. I may or may not have thrown up my breakfast all over the deck. Now I know that cigarette smoke makes me nauseated. Haha. I felt really bad about it. Let me just say that I'm glad people don't smoke everywhere over here!

The island was beautiful beyond anything I could have imaged and was relatively untouched. There weren't any "you can walk here, but not here" signs and we were allowed to wander wherever we liked.

In the middle of the island was an old abandoned lighthouse. If we were in the States there would have been a fence around the whole thing because it was so run down. Old boards and glass everywhere make it rather precarious. Did I mention we didn't have shoes with us either? We kinda left them on the boat. That didn't stop us from finding adventure though! The view was pretty darn sweet.

While looking around another couple told us there was a ship wreck on the other coast, so off we went. I really couldn't believe that such a mangled mess of ship was still there. It was like something you'd see in a movie. I loved it!

Ah, Curacao was so much fun. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I'm so thankful for the wonderful life we started together almost two years ago! I get so excited about celebrating our love! My sweet hubby won't tell me what we're doing for our anniversary next week, so I've been just dying to find out!!! Apparently, it's a surprise. All I know is that we have 4 days off together!!! Woohoo!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
