Real Love is Vulnerable

Real love means being vulnerable
Opening my heart might leave me bruised
True love means laying down my life
To choose another’s good

Real love makes me take chances
Against the worst of odds
It’s a rose grown by the well-traveled path
Blooms though it may be under-trod

True love will gladly loose itself
Courageous, not paralyzed by fear
It gives itself away without expectation
Like a river joins its beloved sea and disappears

Love won’t pull back or hide itself
Though it may be misunderstood
It beams its light, gives all its warmth
Like the sun wouldn’t hold back if it could

Real love won’t run from blows of life
No wound can shake the depths of love
Though I may be broken a thousand times
Love still stands against the raging flood

True love releases the one it loves
It doesn’t grasp too tight, too strong
For my heart walks around outside of me
The cost of love is surrender’s song

Real love only comes from the Truest Love
Love that suffered so the I might be free
Crux of love: highest King in vulnerable flesh
Any love I have comes from the One who loves me
