Savannah in Spring | Part 1

Savannah in Spring | Part 1

I don't think I've seen a more beautiful sight than Savannah in the full bloom of Spring. While traveling for a wedding in late March, we enjoyed a few days in Savannah in between work. It was refreshing and inspiring. I haven't posted much personal work here in quite a while but so I figured I'd end the hiatus! I do love shooting just for myself, creating art just for me. Going out on little adventures, exploring new places and seeing the world through my lens is good for my soul. It's refreshing creativity I can feel down to my bones.

Rosemary Beach Retreat

Rosemary Beach Retreat

This year, my good friend Ashley and I decided that instead of presents we'd make a point to spend time together somewhere. Living in different cities can be difficult when it comes to friendship if you don't make a point to connect. Ash and I have been through so much together that we always pick up right where we left off. Sometimes we talk everyday, sometimes we don't talk for a week or two. She's a gem of a friend.

Taylor & Chase | Simplistic & Intimate Santa Rosa Beach Wedding

Taylor & Chase | Simplistic & Intimate Santa Rosa Beach Wedding

It's hard for me to even begin to describe Taylor & Chase's wedding day. Usually it is fairly easy for me to pull favorite image from a day, but this one is so close to my heart that it has taken me months to even choose. Taylor & Chase put so much purpose behind planning their wedding. After becoming engaged, Taylor and Chase knew they both wanted an intimate celebration with their closet friends and family. Santa Rosa Beach was a natural choice, since both their families love to vacation there. Taylor loves meaningful details and infused that love into so many aspects of their day. Taylor’s Mom and family created the stunning family style table set up on the lawn adjacent to the beach. They filled the tables with Taylor’s favorite muted colored oysters (a nod to the seaside theme), a plethora of candles and handmade arrangements. Guest signed two boat oars that they will keep in their home. Even the officiant was Taylor and Chase’s good friend and Taylor’s old soccer coach.

Tipton House

Tipton House

When Samantha contacted me about taking some images of her home, I knew it was going to be special. The Tiptons poured so much love into this early 1900's home in the historic district of our city. They spent countless hours renovating and choosing just the right pieces to make their spaces sing. Their home is simply stunning. I could have stolen all their ideas! It's no wonder they are saddened to leave this beautiful place when they move soon. It was such a pleasure to get a little glimpse into their lives in this amazing house.

The Gift of Limitations

The Gift of Limitations

"Much of the beauty that arrises in art comes from the struggle an artist wages with his limited medium." (Henri Matisse)

When the nearly uncontrollable urge to create something new in my space hits me, (as it does every few months...or weeks) I often like to challenge myself to only use what I have. Like everyone, I can succumb to the craving for more stuff, things I don't actually need at all. One of the ways I combat that is to force myself not to buy anything when I get the itch to rearrange. It is both frustrating and thrilling to have work and rework things until it's just right. Most of the time I walk away more satisfied than if I had bought something new. It happened just last night with my office space and I couldn't be more pleased with the result. My limitations have the potential to make room for more creativity if I let them. In many ways, confines are where the an artist can find the most inspiration. I never thought of limitations as a gift until a few days ago. I started thinking that maybe the things we feel limit us are actually where our lives and art can be the most authentic and beautiful.
