Mallory & Kevin | Classic & Chic Charleston Wedding

Mallory & Kevin | Classic & Chic Charleston Wedding

Mallory & Kevin wed on a beautiful New Year's Eve in one of the most romantic of destinations, Charleston South Carolina. Everything about their details suited them to a T. Their engagement was photographed at the elegant Swan House Mansion in Atlanta, so it made perfect sense for them to have an equally stunning location for their nuptials. They couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day in the South. It was relatively warm for Winter and perfectly sunny. After enjoying time with their friends and bridal party, they had an intimate first look in Charleston's iconic Battery Park. They chose a palate of grays and neutrals with soft pink to compliment the classic black-tie affair. Lauren from A Fox Event designed luscious peony bouquets that looked stunning with the bridesmaids peplum-waited gowns. Of course Mallory looked effortlessly classic in her lace wedding gown and fur capelet. Of course, what better backdrop than Charleston's quaint corners and cobblestone streets? After beautiful afternoon trapping along the historic roads, they said their vows in an old, stately church downtown and celebrated until the New Year in a gorgeous ballroom. Leaving in an old 1957 Bentley was the perfect ending to their grand celebration.

Charleston Getaway

A little over a month ago our little family took a trip to my beloved city, Charleston. I love when Jonathan and Eleanora get to tag along with me on work trips. Little E did so well while we were out and about. Unless she was hungry, she was an angel! (Besides the tail end of the car rides and sleeping in her travel crib!) Of course I was shooting a good bit of the time, but we were able to explore a bit as well. It was quite rainy and overcast but that is to be expected for the Winter! It is still one of my favorite places I've ever visited. The charm is simply unparalleled. Every street holds something beautiful to find. One of my favorite things this trip was one of the walking tours that went over Charleston's history. It's fascinating. Oh, and I can't forget the food! If you have the chance to visit, be sure to go to Poogan's Porch for delicious southern cooking, Magnolias for fine dining, Kaminsky's for coffee and dessert and Brasserie Gigi for succulent French cuisine. There are so many other places we tried, but those have been my favorites. I will be sharing more from the stunning New Year's Eve wedding I shot while in Charleston, but for now, here are some of my favorite nooks from our explorations.

Abby & Trey | Oak Grove Engagement

Abby & Trey | Oak Grove Engagement

This engagement session had it all - blue and green hues, a guitar, mandolin, killer light, gorgeous floral and this amazing couple. It felt like Springtime the day we shot it too. I've been longing for warm weather, so this session was good for my soul. Abby & Trey are such a phenomenal couple. I love that they incorporated things that are authentic to their lives. Trey is the worship leader at his church and Abby leads with him as well. They are so joyous together. I'm looking forward to their Summer wedding. I know it will be such a fun affair!

Beauty & the Soul

Beauty & the Soul

Beauty has such a profound affect on the soul. So much of what we find beautiful is closely tied to our identity, such as certain colors, music or visual design - things influenced by our personal taste. And yet, there are things known to be universally beautiful, most of which are found in nature, like a fading sunset, grandiose snow-capped mountains or the vastness of the ocean's swell. Somehow the human soul craves beauty, some perhaps more than others, but we all need it in some form nonetheless. We are all curators of what we find beautiful. We surround ourselves with it. We long for it, desire more and yearn to be swept up in it. We want to posses beauty in a myriad of forms; to be beautiful ourselves, to create beauty, to own beautiful things and to behold beauty in our surroundings, just to name a few.

It is almost certain that most of us would fall into a deep depression if we were deprived of beauty. No music. No art. No nature. No words. No people. If I think back the times I felt most sad, it was because my soul's vision of beauty was somehow hindered or blocked. Whatever it may have been was the opposite of beautiful. And the cure? Finding beauty again. A trip to the seaside. Listening to a song. Reading a few uplifting  words. Time with another soul we find soothing. Creating something lovely. Beauty. It's essential to to any sort of glad existence.

Suzanne & Luke | Elegant Pastel Tent Wedding

Suzanne & Luke | Elegant Pastel Tent Wedding

I can barely start to describe this sweetest of sweet wedding day. Suzanne and Luke are by far the most in-love couple I've ever met. It is abundantly evident that they cherish their love and are so grateful to have found one another. Ordinarily I am not an emotional person, but even my eyes well up when I look back through these memories. Their first look was especially tender. I loved so many of their meaningful details, starting with having their first look and reception on Suzanne's family land. Backyard receptions are often the perfect blend of elegance and intimate sentimentality. I loved that Luke wore his grandfather's rings, the old family bible used instead of a ring pillow, Luke's bow tie that was a nod to his family's Cattle business and so many other things. Suzanne's dad completed the little gazebo where they had their first look just in time for the wedding as well. It was the sweetest day you could imagine. I feel so honored to have been a part of it.
