She Walks in Beauty
/I've found myself going in a fresh, different direction this year. It is exciting and terrifying at the same time. When I consider just how many other artists there are in my field, it can be disheartening. Beautiful shots are really a dime a dozen. So I've been digging deep. What fuels my art? Surely it is more than merely capturing "beautiful moments" because beautiful moment are everywhere. I have years of experience under my belt now, but I never want to stop reaching, learning and growing at my art. For me it all comes back to vision, my lens for viewing the world and everything in it. I am an artist. It's who I am at my core. Intuitive. Seeking deeper meaning. New ideas flow constantly. Daily inspiration is a must or my soul shrivels up. I view life like poetry, like a piece of music I am working to compose...never finished, always adding another line or refrain. It dawned on me a few months ago, my visual art should represent my musical and poetic bent in more of a real way.
Creating from nothing. Is there anything more thrilling and entirely intoxicating. One of my favorite love poems is "She Walks in Beauty" by Lord Byron. It struck me that it would make for a beautiful shoot, to play it out line by line. Each moment created with intention, yet also in flux with the rhythm of our surroundings. Nothing is ever exactly how I envision during the inspiration process, but that is part of the rush. Pulling together tangible imagery from beautiful words and concepts has taken my artist heart, so weary of so much "styled" pretty, and has lit a new flame. I cannot wait to see how this year unfolds, and what it looks like to dig deeper into this new direction. Not everyone loves words and classical music like I do. I have always been a closet nerd about these things, but now I find they give me an advantage. I feel deeply and have the ability to translate our human emotions, even the ones we cannot express, into tangible images. With my whole life, I want to go beyond pretty and create art that expresses what is deeply meaningful, for myself and my clients.
A piece of that starts here with, "She Walks in Beauty"...
She walks in beauty like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies
All that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes
Thus mellowed in that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies
One shade more, one ray less Half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress softly lightens o'er her face
Where thoughts of serenity sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent
The smiles that win, the tints that glow
But tell of days in goodness spent
A heart whose love is innocent
