Schelm Family | Fall Family Photos in Utah

Have you ever wondered what time of year is best for family photos in Utah? I must say it has to be Autumn, hands down. Imagine your precious little ones running through the crunchy colorful leave, a crisp, cool breeze blowing through your hair, the cozy feeling that the warm sunset brings, and the dappled light coming through the colorful trees dancing all around you. It’s a pure, unfiltered beauty surrounding your and your family. Everyone pulls in close to enjoy it together. As you all enjoy the stunning vistas, you also have those beautiful moments frozen in time forever. Autumn is truly the perfect season to have family portraits taken.

Of course in Utah, every season is stunning, but fall holds a special place in my heart. Perhaps it’s because I grew up on the coast of Florida, and brown live oak leaves were just about all I saw of color change in the year. I’m mesmerized by the majestic mountains here in Utah, especially since the seaside is what I’ve known most of my life. It’s hard to go wrong taking portraits any time in Utah. (In fact, shooting at all my favorite locations in each season is one of my favorite things to do!) Even so, the kaleidoscope of colors in the canyons in the Salt Lake Valley makes for the most stunning backdrop for family memories. If you want a little extra “magic” in your family portraits, fall is the time to capture those memories. This particular spot in Butterfield Canyon is stunning in Summer and Autumn. Regardless of the season, making it a priority to capture these fleeting moments with your family is well worth the time and effort involved.
